Probably the greatest movie of all time. 12/16/09
Probably the greatest movie of all time is sleepaway camp and I’ll tell you why. All the way up to the very end, SWC has some most worst acting of all time, and at best laughable death scenes, then out of nowhere the final scene brutalizes your mind. It rivals the scariest moment in any David Lynch film times a million. In fact David Lynch can learn a thing or two from SWC. We all can.
For some reason the actor who plays the sheriff shaves his mustache off before he is done with all his scenes and the people who made the movie decided instead of just explaining that the sheriff shaved or getting a fake mustache, they simply use a piece of black electrical tape on his upper lip. Why on earth would they do that?
To disarm you, to catch you off guard for the final most horrifying scene of all time!
And not to mention everyone swears like a drunk sailor.
Ricky:“No problem Chino, this guy blows dead dogs, just lay it in there.”
Bill: "Eat Shit and die Ricky!
Ricky: “Eat shit and live bill.”

Tramp- Lowell Fulson
California Soul- Marlena Shaw
One night affair – The Stylistics
Let Me Prove My Love to You – The Main Ingredient
Watcha See Is Whatcha Get- The Dramatics

Searching – Roy Ayers
I know you got soul – Bobby Byrd
90% of Me is you – Gwen McCrae
Morning Sunrise – Weldon Irvine
Intimate Friends – Eddie Kendricks
Black Frost – Grover Washington
Who in their right mind hasn’t heard of TRASH TALK? Rekindling the true spirit of hardcore punk, specifically west coast hardcore punk, TRASH TALK is probably one of the best and most talked about independent bands of our day and age. Their live show is insane and their touring schedule is awe inspiring to say the least. I asked them to compile a mixtape of whatever music they wanted and low and behold, they love soul music! It should come as no surprise as I can’t imagine a group of dudes with more soul than TRASH TALK. Enjoy!
TRASH TALK LIVE AT SOUND AND FURY 09
If you can’t tell what’s going on, trash talk decided to instead of playing inside the club at sound and fury this year, rent a uhaul truck and play inside that driving hundreds of kids outside to watch them. and yes that kid jumps of the top of that truck into the pit in the beginning of the video.

Like for example they probably wear pants and would not be on tons of drugs.

AMORT 10/30/09
Amort is a one man band from Seattle, fronted on all sides by Tobias Burch. He also plays in the Loathsome Couple. I met him awhile ago at The Winner’s Circle but had no idea that he was the same dude that did Amort. Small world! Tobias stopped by the Actual Pain headquarters the other day to drop off his new record titled “winter tales” out now on Kreation Records. Here’s what he had to say:
ACTUAL PAIN: After only releasing tapes for so long, is weird to put out something on vinyl?
TOBIAS BURCH: It feels great. I released tapes because that’s what I could afford, but I feel very grateful that someone would take the time and money to do an LP of my music.
I really like your artwork on all your releases. Where do you find the source images?
Most of the images are from old books. Both front and back of the LP are old anatomy illustrations.
Visually, and musically, I’m inspired by the time just before the industrial revolution. Right as we were unwrapping the gift that was to be our doom. A time when it took years to travel across the country. So I try to use images that evoke that era.
You seem like a jolly fellow. Would you describe your self as a happy person? Or does all this doom ever just bring you down?
I’m very jolly. I’m not sure I would say happy though. I love to have a good time, but the reality is the world is a very negative place. Here in the NW we live comfortably, but our comfort is constantly teetering on the brink. That dosen’t bother me though, I accept it.

Left bank 10/22/09
I hate movies with characters who have a prolonged, greying illnesses, normally it’s not fun to watch. Linkeroever (Left Bank) does it right. Along the lines of Rosemary’s Baby Left bank has a funny, gross, and horrific style of portraying a Pagan Cult at it’s worse. Maybe because it’s Belgian, it’s a whole lot scarier than most movies that try and pull off the same thing. To top off the great perfomance by Eline Kuppens as Marie the vomiting, hairy legged athelete (you’ll see, it’s awesome and gross), Director Pieter Van Hees does his best David Lynch impersonation, without directly ripping off any of his movies.

Darklands 10/02/09
Several weeks ago I was in a record store in San Diego on tour with my band and my friend Nick who works there was playing this amazing old sounding goth band, who as it turns out was not old but new and actually from San Diego called Blessure Grave. I picked up one of their LPs and got a copy of their newest demo to listen to on the rest of our trip. Randomly a few weeks later, I contacted them about this mixtape I’ve wanted to do for a while now, and they literally had it done that evening. That’s not to say that the mix lacks substance (it’s an hour and twenty minutes) or quality, I think it says that these guys are very serious about the art, and is about to leave a legacy that spreads faster than the plague.
1. Siouxsie & The Banshees – “Sin in My Heart” Check out this Blessure Grave video directed by Mishka blog writer Adam Grabarnick. Blessure Grave // Open Or Shut Music Video from adam grabarnick on Vimeo.
2. Play Dead – “Pleasureland”
3. Agrimensor K – “Principio Y Fin”
4. Sol Invictus – “Raven Chorus”
5. Theatre of Hate – “The Hop”
6. Spizz Energi – “Mega City 3”
7. Fur Bible – “Headbolt”
8. Above the Ruins – “Song of the Wolf”
9. Wire – “On Returning”
10. UK Decay – “Mayday Malady”
11. Paralisis Permanente – “Quiero Ser Santa”
12. Death in June – “To Drown A Rose”
13. Brave New World – “Barriers”
14. Artery – “Afterwards”
15. Crisis – “Afraid”
16. The Cultural Decay – “Brave New World”
17. The Gun Club – “The Stranger in our Town”
18. Six Minute War – “Weatherman”
19. Christian Death – “Electra Descending”
20. No More – “Suicide Commando”
21. Screamers – “Need A Head-On”
22. Ministry – “I’m Falling” (Alternate Mix)

Awhile back I was lucky enought to be asked to illustrate some of the pages for Giorgio’s (of VNGRD ) new magazine titled simply blacknuss. After much anticipation, they are presenting it at Kaleidoscope HQ in Milan Italy on October 1st @7pm.
Sadly, my first art being showed in Milan and I am too busy to go!

Om, Scout Niblett, and Lichens Sept 17th @ Neumos 09/11/09
Om is a two piece (the other half of a little band called SLEEP) and continue in the heavy, mantra based singing style that was the bands calling card on Dopesmoker. I was at this show before and I will be there again, not stoned, but I already feel the contact high.
Scout Niblett (Drag City) is opening and I’m equally as stoked. Anyone that looks like they are having that much fun making depressed weirdo songs wins in my book. And she hangs out with the legendary Bonnie Prince Billy (see video below). Get ready to have your pants charmed off.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, LICHENS (KRANKY). These guys (guy) win the WTF music catagory every time. I’m gonna be the guy at this show selling liquid acid in the bathroom.
Without pants.
