Tit Pig Interview 03/23/11

Sean from Tit Pig did a interview with Trent Moorman over at the Stranger today, check it out here.  In my opinion, Trent is one of the few good music writers in this town. For example he recently tried to interview Styper and when they passed on it he interviewed me instead with the same questions. People say it's funny, you can read it here and decide for yourself.

Also, against better judgement, I have decided to start a cassette only label called WALL OF DOGS and will be releasing a Tit Pig cassette soon, like in the next two weeks. This will be my second release the first one being CROSS "Never Ending Death Demo" which I had to release because, really, who else would?

The cassettes will be available for mailorder through the WALL OF DOGS website so check that site not this one to order. Each release is limited to 100 copies and most likely won't be repressed. At least not by me. Oh and I only plan on releasing bands from the Pacific NW because it makes it a lot easier since there are only five good bands out here.

SOFT KILL // From This Point On 03/18/11

SOFT KILL is the Southern California (soon to be PDX) based band that is fronted by Tobi (formally of Blessure Grave). After what seems like a rollercoster of year for Tobi (He moved to a new city, met a nice girl by the name of Shiloe, fell in love got her name tattooed on his neck, married her and more or less started two bands with her, what a romantic.) he has emerged from it all with a really fun and almost happy (gasp) sounding band and new album, "An Open Door" out now on FAST WEAPONS. Tobi says of his new project,

SOFT KILL is my first song writing collaboration ever. I'm not carrying all the weight and the project isn't identified as just me. I'm not opposed to "doing all the work" so to speak, but the fact that I can naturally be on the same wave length as another person is refreshing.

Musically, it reminds me of what I love about the Cure but that should seem fairly obvious. What isn't obvious is how fucking good they are live. I was reeeally sick last week, had a fever, cough, the works, and I still managed to go see them play at Pony down the street with Dangerous Boys Club. After a few shots, I came out of my flu haze in time to see them play a great set and I went home with one of my new favorite records. Which I will be spinning at L O V E T O N E this Saturday night.

Nice to see good things happening for you Tobi...

Anthem QA with Pendu, Killing Spree, and Disaro 03/11/11

Check out this interview in Anthem with four of my favorite people on Earth as they discuss the movement known as Witch House.

Q&A with Killing Spree, DISARO, and Pendu Recordings // Text: Jordana Sheara // Photographers: Jordana Sheara
Pictured above, BLKRAINBW, Todd Pendu, Robert Disaro, Zane Landreth

The most current love child of electronic music is a genre based on a dark aesthetic commonly referred to as “witch house.” It’s influences run across a wide spectrum of music, from hip hop to industrial. While its not easily definable, the common thread seems that these artists are on a mission to do things their own way, and they aren’t taking no for an answer. They have created a subculture that encompasses all realms of this aesthetic and at the forefront, we find the record labels Pendu Sound Recordings and DISARO Records. For the first time, Anthem got DJs Zane Landreth, BLKRAINBW, and Disaro from Killing Spree, L.A.’s best representation of this new genre, to sit down with New York’s Todd Pendu of Pendu NYC to dissect this cultural phenomenon of all things dark.

How did you each get your start, and do you feel about the term “witch house” as a label for this genre?

Todd Pendu: The New York scene got started with the Pendu Disco that I started over there in Jan 2010, where I did a show with Salem and Gatekeeper...

Wavves // King of the Beach 03/03/11

Wavves new video for King of the Beach is fucking awesome. Sometimes I wish I lived in LA just so I could smoke gold blunts on the beach all day and inject liquid gold into my veins under a bridge at midnight with Anthony Kiedis. But then I wake from my daydream and remember Seattle is the best place on planet earth. Nathan wears the Acid Wolf snap up in this vid too, and I gotta say, it looks damn good. Long live Wavves!

K-Holes Are a Fuck Music Type of Band 02/23/11

There's something about K-Holes music that inspires a primal sex urge in your pants. It could be all the smoking hot babes in the band (yes I am talking about the girls but I am also talking about the dudes), or the fact that they have a saxophone player, but what I really think what makes them make you want to get freaky is their swagger.

They remind me of that band that plays at the Roadhouse during that awesome topless Donna scene in Fire Walk With Me. You know what I'm talking about. When Jacque Renault says to Laura and her slutty friend, "Hey it's my favorite high school sandwich, let's put some meat inside".

Yeah it's like that. A sex sandwich. Anyways Emily Denton (my wife) made this beautifully fucked up video for them. Enjoy! Oh and their new record's out on Hozac Records and you should buy it and find someone to lay down with immediately.

Actual Pain Pyramid Logo Snapbacks 02/23/11

A while back Kanye West ordered some clothes from us after he stumbled upon our website somehow. At first when his stylist emailed me about it I thought it was a joke but as you can see, it is not. This is a photo is of him and some really famous woman at a Jeremy Scott fashion show during NYFW and they appear to be having a great time. Obviously he has good taste (he likes Actual Pain for Christ's sake!) and picked out some really great stuff but most importantly, he got one of the last Pyramid Logo hats. I get a few emails a day from y'all that are new to our brand, so to let you know we are making more of the Pyramid Logo Hats and they should be restocked in the next few weeks.

As far as the shirts they are still limited (I like it better that way) although some stuff will be reprinted from time to time but that's basically up to me so no point in emailing us about it. We are a small company ran almost solely by one person and I plan on keeping it that way. So nothing's changing. Except now we are keeping some hats and logo items stocked on a regular basis... So when our new season drops in a week or so, DON'T SLEEP!

And all you newcomers to Actual Pain don't forget to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates on stock (not to mention special deals for our fans and followers)!

Actual Pain Presents: "I Make My Own Luck" - A Mixtape by Noel Sinclair Boyt 02/21/11

Click the pic to download...

Sometimes I wonder, "What went wrong with people? They are into such horrible fucked up shit their must be something wrong with them." Well in Noel Sinclair Boyt's case, I often wonder, "What went right with this one person? Why can't more people try and be like Noel?".

NSB did a stint with us as a design intern last summer and has done some really great work for other clothing brands in the past like Comune and Manik. Now NSB has left for art school in Portlandia and even thought he may not be illustrating as much for us, he can still send up mixtapes. This one is especially good for fans of heavy metal, I know, we haven't done one in awhile...

And sorry the mixtape cover is so gross, NSB made it himself, and usually I think this kind of shit is tasteless and disgusting but when NSB does it all I see are unicorns and princesses.

Tracklist:
1. "Pillars Of Mercy" by ABSU
2. "In Eternal Dark" by Bone Awl
3. "Serpents Of The Light" by Deicide
4. "Bite It You Scum" by GG Allin
5. "The Family Ghost" by King Diamond
6. "Don't Tread On Me" by Cro-Mags
7. "Evisc" by VON
8. "Let The Day Begin" by Samhain
9. "Hammer Smashed Face" by Cannibal Corpse
10. "Han Som Reiste" by Burzum
